Giovanni Bellini

ジョヴァンニ・ベッリーニは、ヴェネツィア派の始祖であるヤコポ・ベッリーニの庶子（正妻でない女性の生んだ子）で、ヴェネツィア派という画派を確立した巨匠です。ヤコポ・ベッリーニの正妻の息子であるジェンティーレとは異母兄弟で、15世紀北イタリアの代表的な画家マンテーニャとは義兄弟の関係です。早くから父の工房で修行をおこない、マンテーニャやドナテッロ、アントネッロ・ダ・メッシーナなど同時代に活躍していた画家やフランドル絵画から強い影響を受け、多様な実験的作品を手がけながら、色彩豊かで情緒溢れる柔軟性に満ちた画派を確立しました。ジェンティーレと共に開いた当時最大規模の工房ではジョルジョーネやティツィアーノなど同画派の巨匠となる画家を輩出しました。またドイツルネサンスの巨匠デューラーと交友を持つなど、その影響の範囲は多岐に渡ります。その作品の多くは大小の祭壇画や、ピエタ・磔刑などキリストを主題とするなど宗教的なものでしたが、肖像画も多数描いていることがわかっています。

GiovanniBellini is the master who established the Venetian school. He is abrother-in-law with Mantegna, a representative painter of Northern Italy in the15th century. He was strongly influenced by contemporary painters such asMantegna, Donatello, and Antonello da Messina, as well as Flemish paintings,and established the Venetian school, which was rich in color, emotion andflexibility. The studio, which was the largest at the time, produced painterssuch as Giorgione and Titian who became masters of the same school. He also hada friendship with the German Renaissance master D?rer.
